“We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same.” - Anne Frank
If interpreted as "Jews and Germans (and everyone else) are all the same, why don't we love each other and get along?", I find this idea simplistic. This utopic view of the world suggests that once we realize we share more in common than differences, we'll all live together, happily ever after. Currently my view is that conflict in the world does not stem from religion or "evil" but the scarcity of resources: personal, physical, territorial, etc.
What do I mean by scarcity of resources? For example, who gets the girl (or the guy)? This person has studied many years to become a dentist; doesn't he deserve the Porsche? Which family gets to live at the top of the hill, which family is relegated to live down-wind of the slaughterhouse? I often hear people talk about putting food on the table for their families but which food: fresh, organically-grown food or from-frozen, processed TV dinners?
Becoming a father, I do hope that there is a conflict-free and fair way to allocate resources but this is the dilemma mankind has been dealing with for all of humanity. It is far more complex than "we're all the same so let's get along."
