How to avoid passing on the wrong memories?

When we pass on, we want others to remember us, especially our children.  Unfortunately it may be the subconscious or indirect lessons that we pass onto our children.

For example, I have many complaints about my in-laws and their habits, but what am I passing onto my son?  He has learned "what the heck" from me and potentially my less desirable personality traits.  While I generally treat him with almost infinite amounts of patience, I don't do the same for everyone in the household.  So is he going to inherit my impatient and judgemental nature?  I've seen him scolding other kids in preschool; is he mimicking our behaviour?

What have I inherited from my father that I don't want to pass onto my son, and how to end the cycle?
